This handmade key fob keychain is so quick and easy that you will be wishing you had more key rings to put them on. It’s a great gift and a perfect project for a beginning sewist.
In some mini quilt swaps I have been in, people have received key fobs as extras. I always thought they were cute but have never made or received one.
Recently I was browsing through Instagram when I saw that someone had put selvage on a keychain they had made. 
I do love a good selvage. Plus I had a ton leftover from a quilt that I had recently finished.
So I purchased some key fob hardware and got to work.
Supplies:
1-inch key fob hardware
11″ by 4″ piece of Fabric
11″ piece of decorative selvage or ribbon
For this key fob, I used Cotton + Steel basics fabric and selvage from the Cotton + Steel Clover line. How cute are those sheep in the Clover line? I used yardage of them on the back of a quilt. It makes me so happy.
So, back to the key fob.
Take your fabric and fold it in half so that it is two inches wide. In elementary school, we called this hotdog fold because it’s long. If you went the other way it was hamburger because it was fatter and more square. Did anyone else do this?
Press down your fold and open it back up. Fold the sides into the center seam. Fold it in half again and press. You now have a one inch wide and eleven inch long piece.
Take it to your machine and top stitch along both edges.
Next, take your selvage or ribbon and center it on your strip. Top stitch both of the sides.
Now you just fold it in half and clamp the hardware on. Done!
See how quick and easy that was? Now you have time to make about 20 more.
